EXEQUIEL D. ROBLES: The Man behind Sta. Lucia Realty
By Erika Lorainne S. De Sagun
"Success is achieved through hard work and faith in God."
Sta. Lucia Realty's origin date back to 1972 when siblings Buenaventura Robles and Marcela Robles-Santos, aided by their spouses Dominga Dumandan-Robles and Felipe G. Santos, established Buen-Mar Realty.
Based in Santolan, Pasig, Buen-Mar was primarily engaged in developing its name-sake subdivisions in Pasig, Taytay, Morong and Rizal. In 1974, Buen-Mar's success eventually gave birth to Sta. Lucia Realty.
Sta. Lucia Realty distinguished itself from the real estate industry with its vision and foresight. These were the same strengths that would fuel the company's resolution to build a solid foundation and to pursue diversification through the years.
Felipe G. Santos and 19-year old Exequiel Robles, the eldest of the Robles siblings, soon took over the company, exposing it to more opportunities for growth. It was at this point when Sta. Lucia Realty ventured into full-scale horizontal land development.
Exequiel D. Robles continued his father's work in real estate. Since he is the eldest, he served as the breadwinner in their family. He has four children but one died. With that desperate time in his life, he didn't lose hope, he moved on and stand up for the sake of his company.
Two and a half decades later, Sta. Lucia Realty has become the country's leading horizontal developer with Exequiel D. Robles as Chief Executive Officer and Vicente R. Santos as Executive Vice-President. Sta. Lucia Realty is now considered as the biggest real estate company in terms of combined land area, with its prodigious developments rising from all over the country.
Initially intended as an exploratory venture and considered as viable medium to diversify, the Company began the construction of Sta. Lucia East Mall in 1991. For this purpose the services of Landco, Inc. as a management consultant was contracted.
With the company's growth, its reputation as an outstanding and reliable developer of prime properties grew as well. This led to several joint ventures with some of the country's top corporations such as RFM, Hacienda Luisita, Dizon Corporation, Atlanta Corporation and Fil-Estate Land Inc. Foremost of these joint ventures is with ALsons Land Corporation in General Trias, Cavite where the largest golf project in Southeast Asia is being developed.
Sta. Lucia Realty's dynamism is clearly intertwined with the dynamism of its people. The Company's unprecedented growth over the years lies on the dedication, hard work and belief of its employees in Filipino family values. To the Company, these esteemed personnel are at the forefront of the corporate credo: "We're here for you. For always."
The Company's direct involvement in improving community life continues to aid the local government, non-government organizations, charitable institutions and community outreach program.
As the Company grew, it professed interest in basketball. In 1988, Sta. Lucia sponsored the RP Basketball Team in th Sea Games in Malaysia, as well as the National Team in the 1990 ABC Junior and Senior Basketball Tournaments in Nagoya and Kobe, Japan. The Company also supported basketball by fielding an amateur squad in the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL). Currently, its own team, the Sta. Lucia Realtors, has earned the acceptance of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) enthusiats and has also helped the company in its nationwide community efforts.
Sta. Lucia Realty's land development activities are also concerned with environmental protection. Throughout the building process, the conservation if the natural flora and fauna is of utmost importance. The Company is definitely committed to preserve and nurture the environment.
Years of experience, innovative thinking and top management foresight has seen the firm through economic upheavals and political changes.
"There is no limit to how much growth a company can reach. Our dynamism is here to stay and I would not limit growth to a few statistics. We have a lot of projects, true, but our goal should be to achieve client satisfaction and to introduce new opportunities and development concepts. The country is ripe for growth. We should not pass the chance to be the ones to steer it on its way," enthuses Sta. Lucia Realty CEO Exequiel D. Robles
