In the 1990s, Charlotte gained international success when her uncle Andrew Birkin's film "The Cement Garden" was released, a dramatic story about siblings engaging in incestuous relationships after the death of their parents.

In 2000, Gainsbourg won her first Cesar Award for Best Actress for her role in the film "La Bûche." She was also nominated for this prestigious award twice more, for "La Petite Voleuse" in 1989 and "Love etc." in 1997.

In 2006, Charlotte appeared in the psychological drama "Lemming," where she starred alongside another Charlotte - Rampling. She also starred in Michel Gondry's highly anticipated film "The Science of Sleep," released in the same year, where she acted alongside Gael Garcia Bernal.

She has also recorded songs for films in which she has appeared, such as "Charlotte Forever" and "Love etc." In 2005, she released her album "L'une reste, l'autre part," and her new album "5:55" is expected to be released in 2006.
